Homer quietly steps into Luella’s bedroom. Luella is asleep in a day bed. A Raggedy Ann doll lays next to her. Homer carefully lifts her blanket up and covers Luella. Luella responds by turning her head to the wall, still asleep.
Homer leaves Luella’s room, walks down the darkened hallway, and knocks on his parents’ bedroom door.
“Yes?” says Mr. Parrish from inside the bedroom.
“Okay, Pop,” says Homer. “I’m going to bed now.”
“Be right with you, Homer, ” says Mr. Parrish. Homer walks back to his bedroom.
Mr. Parrish steps quickly into the hallway, following Homer back to his room. Mr. Parrish takes his pipe out of his mouth and puts the pipe on Homer’s dresser.
Homer is lighting a cigarette next to his bed.
